The primary responsibilities of this position are to conduct laboratory analyses, maintain laboratory organization and safety, and support day-to-day research operations. The successful candidate will perform biological and physiological laboratory assays; process and organize biological samples; maintain laboratory equipment and supplies; manage chemical inventories and safety documentation; coordinate laboratory inspections and compliance activities; organize research data and laboratory records; and assist with the supervision and management of undergraduate research volunteers. In addition to laboratory responsibilities, the laboratory technician will assist with the operation and maintenance of aquatic mesocosm systems, routine aquatic animal husbandry, water quality monitoring, and field and laboratory experiments. 

 

This position is designed as a training opportunity for individuals seeking research experience before pursuing graduate education or a career in aquatic biology. The successful candidate will receive hands-on training in experimental design, aquatic research systems, physiological and biochemical techniques, data analysis, scientific communication, and laboratory management. As the employee develops technical skills and research independence, there will be opportunities to take increasing ownership of research activities and pursue independent projects aligned with the laboratory's research objectives. These opportunities may include designing and conducting experiments, analyzing and interpreting data, presenting research findings at scientific meetings, and contributing to manuscript preparation and publication.
